What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences and understand how you use them.
Cookies We Use
We use three kinds of cookies. Only the first is needed for the site to work; the other two are optional.
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
wx_consent |
WhyExplain | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies (essential) | 6 months |
_ga |
Google Analytics | Tells visits from the same browser apart, so we can count visitors without knowing who they are (analytics) | 2 years |
_ga_<ID> |
Google Analytics | Keeps track of a single visit (analytics) | 2 years |
_clck, _clsk |
Microsoft Clarity | Groups the pages of one visit so we can see where pages confuse readers (analytics) | See Microsoft’s list below |
CLID, MUID, MR, SM, ANONCHK |
Microsoft Clarity (microsoft.com) | Microsoft’s own identifiers used by Clarity (analytics) | See Microsoft’s list below |
Your choice
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, analytics cookies are only set after you click Accept on our cookie banner. Until then, Google Analytics receives only cookieless signals with no identifiers, as described in Google’s consent mode, and Clarity does not run.
Everywhere else, analytics cookies are on by default. You can turn them off at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
📌 We do not use advertising cookies or ad-targeting pixels, and advertising consent is always set to “denied”. Logged-in site editors are never tracked.
