How We Research, Write, and Publish Every Explainer
WhyExplain publishes one type of content: explainers. Here’s how every article gets made.
📌 Not news. Not opinion. Not listicles. Long-form, deeply researched articles that explain how a business or financial concept actually works — from first principles to practical implications.
Step 1: Topic Selection
We prioritise topics based on three criteria: reader demand, explainability, and durability. We don’t chase news cycles. A WhyExplain article on compound interest should be as useful in 10 years as it is today.
Step 2: Research
Primary Sources
Government data (Federal Reserve, BLS, Census Bureau, SEC), peer-reviewed academic research, and official corporate disclosures.
Data Verification
Every statistic is traced to its primary source. Where sources conflict, we note the discrepancy and explain it.
Cross-referencing
Key claims are verified against at least two independent sources before publication.
Step 3: Writing — Three Levels
The core concept in plain English — explained as if to a smart friend who knows nothing about the topic.
The mechanics, nuance, and how it works in practice.
Data, edge cases, academic context, and professional-grade detail.
Step 4: Fact-Checking & Editing
Before publication, every article goes through a structured fact-checking pass. AI tools assist with research drafts and formatting, but all content is reviewed and edited by our human team before publication.
Step 5: Updates & Corrections
We update articles when facts change and correct errors promptly. All corrections are logged in our Corrections Register. Read our full Editorial Standards for more detail.
